The Aquaculture Advisory Council highlights major 2024–2025 achievements

The Aquaculture Advisory Council (AAC) has released its overview of achievements for 2024–2025, showcasing significant progress in supporting the development of sustainable aquaculture in Europe.

As a stakeholder platform, the AAC provides advice to the European Commission and Member States on any new legislative, regulatory or legal measure at European or national level that affects aquaculture.

EFFAB is actively involved in the AAC’s work, particularly on topics related to sustainable aquaculture and fish welfare.

Among the latest achievements, it is worth mentioning:

  • A shared Vision for Aquaculture 2040, calling for a renewed EU aquaculture policy
  • The inclusion of economic sustainability indicators in the 2024 EU aquaculture economic report
  • Progress on aquatic animal welfare, with the establishment of the EU Reference Centre for Animal Welfare for Aquatic Animals (EURCAW-Aqua) and contributions to the first EU Code of Good Practices on Fish Welfare
  • The launch of the 2025 EU-wide communication campaign “We work for you with passion”
  • The organisation of yearly public disseminations webinars
