EFFAB at the FAO Intergovernmental Meeting on Animal Genetic Resources
Çağla Kaya, EFFAB’s EU Program Manager, represented EFFAB at the 13th Session of the FAO Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Animal Genetic Resources. During the Meeting, Çağla showcased EFFAB’s progress on Code EFABAR, supporting local breeding programs, and shared insights from ongoing research projects.

EFFAB welcomes the publication of the outcome report of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture

The European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders (EFFAB) welcomes the publication of the outline report of the Strategic Dialogue Report on the Future of EU Agriculture. We commend the European Commission and all involved stakeholders for their extensive efforts to outline a sustainable and resilient path forward for Europe’s agriculture and food systems. Animal breeding has an essential role to play in the transition toward more sustainable farming systems. Our sector supports the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improves animal welfare, and contributes to most of the guiding principles and recommendations set out by the Strategic Dialogue.

FABRE TP at EAAP 2024

FABRE TP will be participating at EAAP's Annual Meeting coming up in September in Florence, Italy. Naomi Duijvesteijn, Chair of FABRE TP and Flaviana Gottardo, Padova University will be chairing our joint challenge session of AH&W – Genetics EAAP Study Commissions and FABRE TP "Animal welfare versus Genetic progress? Is genetic progress the problem, or can it be part of the solution for better animal welfare?".

EFFAB presenting CODE EFABAR at EAAP 2024

Geena Cartick will present and discuss the Code EFABAR initiative, and its role in shaping the future towards responsible and balanced breeding. Balanced and responsible breeding means finding a sustainable compromise for the people, the planet, and farm animals between traits related to the health and welfare of animals, their environmental impacts, and the quality and quantity of production (milk, meat, fish meat and eggs) whilst keeping genetic diversity. With sector perspectives from Naomi Duijvesteijn (FABRE TP Chair) and Craig Lewis (EFFAB Chair).

Call for Application : EU-LI-PHE Training School
08 April 2024
The EU-LI-PHE (European Network on Livestock Phenomics) is organising its first Training School, scheduled from June 18th to June 21st, 2024. Hosted by ILVO in Merelbeke, Belgium, this training school will be conducted onsite. The focus of this training school lies in high-throughput phenotyping technologies for livestock systems. These technologies provide real-time, non-invasive, and precise animal-level information. The EU-LI-PHE COST Action aims to bridge these gaps by disseminating knowledge about innovative animal phenotyping approaches and preparing the next generation of animal scientists for the field of phenomics.
