Plenary Vote on the protection of animals during transport
20 January 2022EFFAB welcomes the European Parliament’s final recommendations on the protection of animals during transport and recognises the work of the ANIT Committee over the past 18 months. The reaction highlights the commitment of animal breeders to improving animal health and welfare through responsible breeding, while recognising that the transport of breeding animals remains necessary in certain circumstances. EFFAB stresses the importance of science, practical knowledge, research and innovation to improve breeding and reproduction technologies, reduce the need for live animal transport where possible, and ensure high welfare standards for animals that are transported. EFFAB also expresses its willingness to contribute to the European Commission’s next steps on this important issue.
