Joint call on MEPs for adoption of NGT Regulation without amendments

04 May 2026

EFFAB, together with 30 EU agri-food value chain partners, signed a joint letter urging Members of the European Parliament to support – without further amendments – the adoption of the proposed Regulation on plants derived from new genomic techniques (NGTs), in line with the trilogue compromise reached in December 2025.

Ahead of the upcoming plenary vote, the agri-food chain coalition considers that the outcome of the trilogue negotiations represents a balanced and workable compromise. The outcome supports transparent innovation, ensures fair access, and strengthens the tools available to breeders and farmers across the EU. At a time when the agri-food sector faces increasing challenges, from climate change to pest pressure, to market volatility, it is essential to build a proper EU legal framework to strengthen food security, sustainability and the global competitiveness of the EU agri-food sector. And the compromise text responds to this urgent need.

The signatories therefore call on Members of the European Parliament to support the trilogue compromise text. They urge them to reject any amendments in the upcoming votes, as reopening the text would delay implementation and would risk undermining the EU’s ability to align with global innovation in this strategic area.
